Why do we celebrate Karwa Chauth?
Karwa Chauth Katha
A beautiful queen called Veeravati was the only sister
of seven brothers
She spent her first Karva Chauth at her parent’s house
She observed a strict fast after sunrise
but by evening was extremely hungry
and waiting for the moonrise
Her brothers couldn’t see their sister in such distress
and created a look like of moon
with the help of a mirror
and light on a peepal tree
The brothers went and told her
that the moon has risen
and after having a look
Veeravati mistook it for the moon
and broke her fast
As soon as she ate
a message arrived that her husband was dead
She wept and prayed through the night
until a Goddess appeared
When the queen explained her sorrow
The Goddess told her that
how she was tricked by her brothers
and instructed her to repeat the fast
of Karva Chauth with utmost devotion
When Veeravati repeated the fast
Yam, the Lord of death
was forced to restore her husband to life
